Too bad about the scanning issue. Vista is a pain in the arse in terms of compatibility--needs maybe five more years for enough hardware to catch up to 64-bit standards. In other news, if you can't get your parents scanner working, then at worst there are places you can go, although they charge by the minute. I know that Kinkos (Fedex Office) locations usually have "self-serve" areas with graphics computers and scanners. Many print shops do. Good luck with the scanner.
